Tips On How To Practice Piano

Like all students, you need to repeat the parts you have to learn until you really know them. The simplest way of doing that is to break your notes down into several parts and practice them one by one.

If you always play the whole part, you will play the easy parts as often as the hard parts, and will miss doing the necessary extra work on the hard sections.

Also, begin with playing one hand at a time. It does not matter if you are playing the chords or following sheet music, always start by playing one hand at a time. That will help you get focused and get a feeling for every single part of the music.

Start playing the parts until you know them, or until you feel that you need to leave that section and try another one.  Sometimes when you get stocked in one section and feel that it is too hard to play properly,  you might just leave that part and start with another one. Then go back later and try again.

It happens a lot during piano practice that when you try too much that you almost get “locked up” with the tricky parts, and then you just need to break that pattern for a while. No harm with that, soon you will find that part easy too!   Learn piano the easy way Here

Practising Piano Slowly

One other thing to think of concerning piano practice is to not begin to play too fast. If you are practicing slowly, slowly from the beginning, you will manage the hard parts much easier and will not get hooked that easy on the tricky notes.

When you have started playing with one hand, and then been playing the piano music section by section, it is time to play the whole part.

Even now play so slow that you will make it without too many mistakes. After that, speed it up to standard tempo, but be sure that not play faster than you can handle.

Piano Practice Mistakes

I remember when I first started to play the piano at school. I always made the same mistake. For some reason, I like when things are going fast, so I always played the melodies too fast when practicing.

This habit created problems for me because when I came to the tricky parts I most often missed to play properly so the mistakes became settled in some way. It was very hard to ever get it right after I had played the mistakes so many times. You will avoid this problem if you start playing with one hand at a time, and if you start to play slow and do not increase the speed until you are managing that part of the section!

Piano Practice Schedule

It is always important to have goals and to know what you really want to achieve. Other wise you will just waste a lot of time. If your wish is to know all chords and to be able to play them with ease, then you need to sit down and work out a piano practicing routine that will help you reach that goal. Do you want to know about inversions or other piano technical details you have to plan the practicing for that also.

How Long Should I Be Practicing?

Something almost all students are asking is how long they should practice, but actually, that is all up to out o decide. What is it that you want to achieve? Not everyone can be a concert pianist. Most of us will be playing at home, for pour friend and family or at church etc. The most important thing is that you are having fun and enjoying yourself also during practice.

I am convinced that anyone can learn to play the piano at a level that is enjoyable and satisfying, but since two people are never alike – we will always play at different levels and learning with different speed. Some of us have a natural gift for playing the piano and it seems like they just play. but if your ability to play is more average, you might need to practice more. But have fun during the time, and the more you practice the more you will know!

Everyone knows that practice is essential for all learning. If you come across something that you feel is very difficult it is important that you put some extra effort into that. A good rule is to follow the “practice the three time a day routine”. If you follow that you will always learn it – even if it takes weeks or month – you will eventually learn it!

Piano Practise Routine

If you are living in a place where people can listen to you through the walls- plan on playing the piano on times when you can learn your lessons and make your mistakes without thinking about who can hear you!

Too many people think they don’t have time to practice the piano, but the truth is; they have not made time for it! You can do what you want with your time, right? Planning is the key! Write the time down, and follow it through.

How to Play The Piano from the Beginning

One other tip for you when learning to play is to not overdo it. It might sound crazy since we all know that practicing is the key to all success, but in fact, we can practice too much too! Sometimes when we play and play the same thing over and over again, we feel so tired of it, and then it might be time to take a break!

I am all for pushing myself and testing limits, but we should still be able to enjoy what we are doing or otherwise the temptation to give up the whole piano playing thing will be too strong. This is important to all of us, and maybe most for the younger piano students.

There are too many young piano students that quit playing because the lost the fun of it. Yes, I know that everything in life can not always be fun, but we do not want to kill the lust and motivation for playing by pushing people too hard here.

If you are the one that wants to learn the piano, you know yourself and your limits the best I think. Do not forget to take a break if you feel that you have done enough piano practice and remember that playing the piano and learning this wonderful instrument should be a joyful and creative experience!

What about the piano?

One important but often neglected thing about practicing playing the piano is that make sure that you are comfortable sitting at the piano. Is the piano chair at the right height for you?

One other important issue is what kind of an instrument you are playing on. Is it a good piano? Is it in tune, or should you ask someone to correct the sound for you? Or maybe it is time to go get a new instrument? Many are those who have given up because of a bad piano – no one wants to give their time and effort in playing the piano if it never sounds good!

When you are sitting at the piano you might sometimes feel stiff in your arms and shoulders, so be sure to stretch your muscles no and then while making your piano lessons – it is important that you keep your body soft and without pain!
